Lucknow: Waving an illegal firearm on social media proved costly for a young man in the Vikas Nagar area of Lucknow, as the police arrested him within 24 hours of the video going viral. Acting swiftly, the Vikas Nagar police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol and one live cartridge from the accused.
According to the police, a video showing a youth brandishing an illegal firearm on social media platforms came to their notice, following which an immediate investigation was launched. Based on technical analysis and local inputs, the accused, Mohammad Wasiq (around 20 years old), was arrested on February 28, 2026. He is a resident of Sector-2 slum area near Mama Chauraha under the Vikas Nagar police station limits, while his native place is reported to be Mallawan town in Hardoi district.
Illegal Weapon Recovered
On the basis of the accused’s disclosure, the police recovered the same .315 bore illegal firearm and one cartridge that were seen in the viral video. A case has been registered against him under Sections 3/25 of the Arms Act, 1959, and further legal proceedings have been initiated.

Strict Action Against Social Media Misuse
Officials from the Vikas Nagar police station said the accused has been produced before the court as per legal procedure. The police have reiterated that strict action will continue against individuals who display illegal weapons on social media to create fear or seek publicity.
The action was carried out by the local unit of Uttar Pradesh Police, which has once again warned that misuse of social media and possession of illegal arms will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
